Sheffield’s Adam Duffy storms into pro tour after ousting David Gray: World Snooker Q School Event 3
English cueist, Adam Duffy, will finally participate in the upcoming season’s professional tour as he has grabbed the pro tour card after he ousted compatriot, David Gray by 4-2, in the quarter-final clash of the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) 2011 on Saturday, May 28.
The event was held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The 32-year-old Gray got-off the mark first when he fired a sensational break of 67 to pick the scrappy first frame by a convincing score line of 32-85. Gray took the next frame too with 8-45 to grab a 0-2 lead over Duffy.
The Sheffield potter, Duffy, replied with a superb knock of 67 in the third frame to clinch the frame 67-6 and move within one frame up, followed by another frame win at 64-13 to pull level at 2-2. Duffy took the next two frames 60-30 and 63-27, respectively, to book his spot in the 2011-12 season.
While speaking to the media after grabbing the tour card, he said, “It's not sunk in yet that I'm on the main tour. After that year I had a bit of a lapse, but recently I've been working hard and it has paid off.”
He added, “I had a bit of luck this week because in an earlier match against Stephen Rowlings, I was 3-1 down and had a problem with my tip. I managed to nick the fifth frame, then the match was pulled off so I went home and changed my tip. After that I didn't miss a ball.”
Young Duffy is quite excited after his qualification and believes he can make the best out of the opportunity given to him.
Duffy was elated with his performance and said, “I only live close by so it will be great playing in the World Championship qualifiers next season because a lot of friends will come down to support me. My target is to get into the top 64.”
The youngster has the capability to make to the world’s top-64 and now he has got the chance to prove himself worthy of glory. Soon, the Sheffield cueman will be practising with his friend, the World Snooker Championship 2011 runner-up, Judd Trump, in London.
