Sheila Johnson desires to attract more women in golf
The CEO of Salamander Hospitality, Sheila Johnson desires to see more women in golf by offering them a sport friendly environment in the near future.
She currently owns multiple golf courses and resorts in the US. Her network of golf resorts is one of the finest and the toughest in Florida.
Most of the golf followers and players know her network as Grand Golf Resorts of Florida. She plays golf sometimes and is also a board member of the Tiger Woods Foundation.
"I think we're in a time now where sponsors are making us work for their money," Johnson said. "It's a case of trying to put the right package together, and finding the right sponsor that believes in the sport".
Johnson currently owns three golf courses, named the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, the Woodlands Resort & Inn and the Salamander Resort & Spa.
These golf courses and resorts are designed in a modern way and they are perfect places for the tournaments to be organised at.
The only pressing need right now is to find more sponsors and investors, so that more tournaments can be staged.
Likewise, it is also essential that women’s golf can flourish by meeting the new age standards of golf.
The PGA Tour (Professional Golf Association) is the leading organiser of the events staged at Johnson owned courses.
The past results are remarkable and every golfer dreams to perform in Florida. Florida is the perfect golfing place and has a sport friendly weather, with amazing crowds.
Hence, Johnson also wants the LPGA Tour (Ladies Professional Golf Association) staged events to be hosted among these three golf courses.
"Golf is in a transition. Things are starting to pick up again," Johnson said. "The PGA has recognized that we've got to get women into the game of golf. It's a good revenue source. I'm taking it upon myself with my properties to bring that commitment and
excitement".
The 2012 season schedule is already set. She now has a chance to convince the LPGA Tour officials to host an event on any of these three golf courses in the 2013 season.
Her initiatives of supporting women’s golf in the US are impressive.
Most of the golf players also appreciate her for her extra efforts that are directed towards safeguarding the future of golf.
