Shelley Duncan shines in Cleveland Indians 3-2 win over Kansas City Royals – MLB Spring Training
Cleveland Indians clinched a thrilling 3-2 win against Kansas City Royals at the Goodyear Ballpark Arizona, on Tuesday, March 6 in their Cactus League game of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training. The Indians showed great determination, fighting spirit and temperament to prevail in a nail biting encounter. Handling the pressure absolutely brilliantly, Manny Acta and his men established complete control over the contest to earn an important Spring Training win.
Royals had their chances throughout the contest. However, they did not capitalise on some easy scoring opportunities, which played a crucial part in deciding the outcome of the clash. Shelley Duncan was absolutely outstanding for the Indians, picking up from where he left off last season. Hitting a towering three run home-run, he produced a match winning performance for his team.
The striker has done exceptionally well in the Indians’ Minor League system but he still looking for a full time job on Cleveland’s big league roster. The upcoming regular season will be of great importance for Duncan. If he can perform consistently, he will have a great chance to cement his place in the team.
"He's a bat that at any moment can pop one out," Indians' manager Manny Acta said of Duncan, who had seven homers and 23 RBIs in 26 games in September.
"Every guy in the big leagues can play left field," Acta added. "How well (can Duncan), we'll see. Defence is very important to us because we have a staff of contact pitchers. But at times, you have to give up defence for some offense because scoring has been an issue here."
"It's tough to assess much over two innings, but I threw all my pitches and felt fine," Slowey said.
Kevin Slowey displayed some high quality pitching skills as he tossed two scoreless innings, making his debut with the Indians. The 27-year-old had a terrible time with the Twins last season. He will be looking to bounce back from a forgettable 0-8 season. The Indians, on the other hand, will be hoping to maintain their decent form in their upcoming Spring games to cheer up their fans.
