Question:

Sheltie puppy's ears?

I got a sweet little sheltie puppy 3 weeks ago. Yesterday she turned 11 weeks old and as soon as I woke up and took her out I noticed a change in her ears.

Before yesterday, her ears were nicely "tipped" the way sheltie's ears are supposed to be. But yesterday I noticed they were flopped over aLOT more. They almost look kind of silly LOL..

I'm wondering what's going on.. Will they "perk" up again as she grows older? The websites say that it's best to work to correct a sheltie's ears when they're still young, so is there something I should do?

I'm trying to take the best care of my baby, but this took me by surprise LOL..

  1. I have a sheltie too and her ears are slightly tipped and she's an adult so i guess it can be natural because she had them since the day we got her < 3 months old> I wouldn't worry about it she looks cute like that

  2. Hopefully, you purchased your furbaby from a reputable breeder.  In that case, contact the breeder and ask.

If you obtained your puppy somewhere else, use a search engine annd type in Shetland Sheepdog ears.

  3. as she gets old her ears will perk up more. If they haven't by 6 months your vet can help correct them. If you still have more concerns between now & then ~ just ask your vet when you take her in for her puppy check-up & puppy shots.

  4. Those of us with Aussies have the same problems, LOL!  The ears go up and down during teething, but after 6 months or so they generally set the way they will be.  There are a lot of breeder websites that show how to properly brace the ears of shelties (and collies) using Dr. Schol's footpads, ect.  Can your breeder show you how?
