http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonjo-Shelvey-c19081 was optimistic about playing a part in Brendan Rodgers future plans for the Reds, as he signed a new long-term deal with the Merseyside club.
The midfielder arrived at Anfield from Charlton Athletic in May 2010 for an estimated 1.7 million pounds transfer fee. After a relatively quiet start to his Premier League career during his first full season, he was loaned out to the Championship outfit
Blackpool in September 2011. He made 10 appearances for the Seasiders during a two month sojourn and scored 6 goals.
He was summoned back to Merseyside by former manager Kenny Dalglish, after the squad was marred by a couple of injuries.
Having experienced significant action on the field under the Kop legend during the prevenient term, Shelvey let out his excitement upon penning a lengthy contract with Liverpool, and felt that Rodgers style of play will suit his game.
While talking to reporters, he said: “It's lovely to know I am in the plans for the future... The gaffer and his way of playing will suit me down to the ground and hopefully I can be in his plans.”
The 20-year old also believed that he has shown considerable improvement over the last year, and his brief stint at Blackpool helped him polish his abilities. He also said that playing alongside the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 and other superstars in the team
during the second half of the season was an honour for him, and a player was bound to learn things by just being around them.
The midfielder represented the Reds in 21 games last season and at times featured in the starting-eleven.
Despite getting a good share of representation, Shelvey divulged that he plans on making further improvements to his game and set himself the target of securing a permanent place in the team.
He was also in awe for the Northern Irishman’s playing philosophy which he is trying to introduce at Anfield, and claimec that everyone was enjoying the new playing style during the training sessions.
“Instead of doing a lot of long-distance running and things like that in pre-season, everything has been with a ball, which is more enjoyable. Everyone is enjoying training and looking forward to coming in.”
