Liverpool midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonjo-Shelvey-c19081, has admitted that the mood in the Reds dressing room was downbeat following the club’s failure to land in a replacement for Andy Carroll, but vowed to fill in the striker’s void.
The Merseyside club sent the English International out on a season-long loan to West Ham United close to the transfer deadline date. It was strongly believed that the Reds will sign at least one striker on the closing date, having lost a handful of forwards
during the summer business.
However, Fulham’s Clint Dempsey, who was a strong favourite to sign for the Anfield outfit, instead opted to move to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving the manager, Brendan Rodgers, empty handed.
Consequently, the owners and the manager were heavily criticized  by the fans for failing to bring in a surrogate for Carroll, as the fragility in the Reds frontline became more manifest ever since.
Although Shelvey conceded that the entire unit were thoroughly disappointed over the club’s failure to broker a deal for a striker on the deadline day, he promised to step up and take over the striker’s role.
The 20-year old also wants his team to put the transfer fiasco behind them, and instead turn their focus on doing well with the current resources that they have at their disposal.
“As a team, when the transfer window passed we were all disappointed that we didn’t get to bring anyone in but that’s when we’ve all got to step up to the plate,” he told the reporters.
“We can’t lump it up the pitch because we haven’t got the kind of player to do that, so we need to keep being patient and keep working on openings.”
Shelvey carried a second-choice status under the reign of Liverpool’s former managers. However, the midfielder enjoys the confidence of the current Anfield boss, who feels that the player can play a valuable role upfront.
The English International has so far made 7 appearances for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 this season, but is yet to find the back of the net.
“[Rodgers] said he sees me as a goal threat and I had a few chances today but I couldn’t score but hopefully it will come,” the play-maker added.
