Sheng Mu Lee and Yu Chin Chien grab Mixed Doubles crown in the 2011 Thailand Open GP Gold
Chinese Taipei’s Sheng Mu Lee and Yu Chin Chien have won the Mixed Doubles title after beating Nova Widianto and Vita Marissa of Indonesia in the final match of the 2011 Thailand Open GP Gold, at Bangkok, Thailand. The match was played on Sunday, June 12.
The World Number 14 in the Mixed Doubles rankings, Sheng Mu and Yu Chin, who were the fourth seeds in the event, overpowered the experienced couple of Widianto and Marissa in a straight-set battle which took 31 minutes of hard work from both sides.
In the opening set of the final, Sheng Mu and Yu Chin delivered a terrific performance by playing flawless badminton, which put them far ahead of their opponents in the first set. Widianto and Marissa failed to play well at the net and missed opportunities
to find the bird for smashes. Their speed at the net was not that fast, when compared to their rivals.
Sheng Mu and Yu Chin were dominating the game with great control and earned many points by getting high clears in the middle of the court. They finished the rallies by executing powerful smashes, coupled with net killings. Sheng Mu and Yu Chin took advantage
in the match by winning the first game in just 13 minutes by a 21-10 margin.
However, the second set was a superb fight, as both pairs remained toe-to-toe by playing at the highest level of the game. Both duos were employing powerful smashes, strong pushes, cross court net shots, straight to the body pushes and the killing strokes
at the net.
As a result of the perfect play from both sides, the score reached at the crucial stage of 21-21. Sheng Mu and Yu Chin managed to earn two consecutive points and won the game by a 23-21 margin, after working hard for 18 minutes.
The straight-set encounter came to an end in 31 minutes. Sheng Mu and Yu Chin emerged as the winners of the title with a 21-10 and 23-21 margin.
