  1. There are no available statisics for your question. After Sherman beat General Joseph Eggleston Johnston in battles south and west of Atlanta, Johnston's army was decimated, and could only fight in retreat. Eventually Johnston's army was reduced to nothing and Sherman took Atlanta,and began his historic march to the sea, and then to the unprotected Carolina's, which Sherman considered the seat of southern seccession.
