Sherry Liu earns Women’s 800m freestyle gold: Day four – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Sherry Liu of HYACK earned gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on day four of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Sunday, July 22.
Liu demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the sixteen-lap freestyle discipline as she showed her urgency towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her fascinating efforts, she remained three body lengths ahead of Bridget Coley of Hamilton and hit the finishing end with the timing of 8 minutes and 49.74 seconds for gold medal.
Liu’s astonishing pace placed her 3.17 seconds faster from Coley, who followed her on the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 8 minutes and 52.91 seconds.
The 19-year-old Coley was trailed by Heather Maitland of TSC, who remained one and a half body length apart and finished third in the discipline by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 54.43 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Alex Aitchison of UNATT-Canada, who stayed two body lengths apart and transpired on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by posting a time of 8 minutes and 56.68 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Breanne Siwicki of MANTA, who stayed almost 1.80 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing blockade with an effort of 8 minutes and 58.47 seconds.
The 17-year-old Siwicki was traced by Karyn Jewell of CNG, who remained four body lengths apart and secured sixth fastest spot of the race by clocking an effort of 9 minutes and 02.04 seconds.
Similarly, Jewell remained 0.93 seconds faster from Danica Ludlow of PGB, who remained prominent for seventh position of the event by posting a time of 9 minutes and 02.97 seconds.
Eighth position of the distant freestyle discipline was obtained by Nadine Williams of STSC, who was 1.33 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 9 minutes and 04.30 seconds.
Furthermore, Liu expressed happiness over her victory in the 800m discipline and aroused hopes of her supporters by saying that she would train harder to defend her title.
