She’s All In could end Awesome Maria’s winning streak in the Phipps Ogden Handicap
Robert H. Zollener’s homebred She’s All In is in great form, but she has never faced an adversary like, Awesome Maria, in her whole career, who is sitting pretty undefeated in her last six races, a period that has gone on to span two seasons now, but the
Donnie K. Von Hemel trained 5-year-old mare will come face to face with a legend in making in the Grade 1, $400,000 Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont Park.
The Grade 1 event will be run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on the Big Sandy’s main dirt track on 28 May, 2012, where four other fillies will try to end the supreme graded stakes win streak of, Awesome Maria.
Both Awesome Maria and She’s All in are exiting a victory in 1 1/8 mile races, and both females will cut back in distance in the Phipps Ogden Handicap at 1 1/16 miles.
Bred in Oklahoma, She’s All In went winless in this year’s Oaklawn Park meet. The 5-year-old Include mare kicked off her seasonal campaign with a third place finish in the Pippin Stakes to winner, Absinthe Minded in the 1 1/16 mile contest.
Her second start was in the Bayakoa Handicap also at 1 1/16 miles, and this time too Absinthe Minded got the best of She’s All In. With the same first three finishers of the Pippin Stakes, Absinthe Minded in first, Tiz Miz Sue in second and She’s All In
in third.
However, She’s All In made progress in the Grade 3 Azeri Stakes and finished second to, Tiz Miz Sue, and finally landed her first win of the season in the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne racecourse, topping the 1 1/8 mile distance in 1 minute and
51.79 seconds.
“She’s just improved her game this year. We want to give her an opportunity in a Grade 1,” Von Hemel said. “It’s a short field. I’m sure Awesome Maria and It’s Tricky are the big reason for that short field. She ran so well last time at Hawthorne we wanted
to give her an opportunity while she’s at the top of her game right now.”
