Ukrainian captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andriy-Shevchenko-c6014 has gone on to announce that he is no longer going to play for the national team anymore and will only play in his testimonial match, as a gesture to say good bye to the fans.
The striker went on to call it quits on his international career, following his sides exit from the group stages of the Euro 2012.
The thirty five year old feels that he will no longer be able to continue playing at his best for the national team and for this very reason, he has decided to leave on a high.
When asked about his international career after the match against England and whether it was time to leave, the goal scoring machine responded by stating: "Probably. I will play one more game just as a friendly – a goodbye game."
Shevchenko was also disappointed with the fact that his side didn’t make it to the next round of the contest, but feels that his team did all that they could.
However, he still feels that the team performed rather well depending on the group they had been seeded in, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, France and Sweden to face off against.
"Of course we are sad because we [host] the competition and after the first game we were magnificent, very good and we won against Sweden," he added.
"And when in a group where you have England, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015 it's a tough group. We tried coming out of a tough group and I think we played well."
The striker showed just how good he can be in the game against Sweden. With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029 giving his side the lead, Shevchenko went on to score two quick goals via his head for Ukraine, as he helped the side go on and claim all three points from the
game.
Nonetheless, with him now being thirty five years old and seemingly set to retire from club football as well, it seems like a wise decision on his behalf to call it a day on playing for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032.
It is now a wait to see just who the player plans on playing his goodbye game against.
