Shia:how can one tell is someone is sayyid/alawiyya?

Question

does the relation to muhammed(saww) have to be from both the mothers and fathers side for them to be sayyid/alawiya?

or can they be sayyid/alawiya if just one of their parents sides has the relation to muhammed(saww) ?

No only the Father, if the mother is shriefa (sayeda) not the father, then the children are Mirza/shriefa

it has got nothing to do with Islam..these sunnis reject their own hadith books..which says arabi is not better than ajami..

There is no such high power for being related in that form.
