Question:

Shiba Inu is not obedient!?

My Shiba Inu, Cooper, is about 4 months old, yes i know shes still considered a puppy. But, I have a problem. I have another dog, a miniature schnauzer names Parker, who is 5 years old. He's older, and he can't really handle the hyper dog. She acts like a cat, and her claws are sharp and hurts my dog when she tries to play. And, she also bites him too, when playing. I feel bad, because I tell her [cooper] no, and she still doesn't know when to stop playing. She also doesn't listen. She doesn't acknowledge her name, and she won't come to me when I say "come here!" She learned to go to the bathroom outside, but it's her way or the highway. Is there a way I can teach her to play nice, learn her name well, and also come to me when I ask?

Any help from dog owners in general, especially a shiba dog owner, would be appreciated.

Thank You!

  1. I love the look of a shiba inu. They are so cute.

  2. Alrighty, first you should give your dog treats when Cooper sees Parker. This will make Cooper associate being nice to Parker with treats.

Next, try not to use the word "No." If she still keeps up the non-stop playing, then you should use sound aversion. Nothing too harsh, but making a high sound will distract Cooper, and Cooper will start to understand that playing harsh will make the nasty sound.

As for Cooper's name, you should probably just keep saying Cooper's name when Cooper sees you. He just has to just used to it.

To get her to come, you can associate coming back to you with a treat. Making strange sounds will cause Cooper to come and investigate. If you have a lot of room, run away from Cooper. Cooper will have the natural instinct to follow.
