Shieldmaiden set to shine at Kempton – 32red Handicap Preview
Mark Johnston’s young filly, Shieldmaiden, is expected to show a decent run at Kempton racecourse today, March 1 and notch up top spot in 32red Handicap race.
The Class 4 contest of 1m3f distance will commence at 8:10 (GMT). The total prize money for the event is £4,075.
Shieldmaiden will have to run against six competitors including Franco Is My Name, Mataaleb, Scamperdale, Brouhaha, Battleoftrafalgar and Sand Skier.
The chances of Shieldmaiden’s finishing first in the race are higher because she accomplished a couple of marvellous victories during last three months.
The four-year-old brilliant runner won a mega event narrowly at Southwell on December 10, 2011. She went on to win another race on January 5, 2012 at Wolverhampton.
In her last outing at Dundalk on January 27, the novice filly finished seventh after getting trailed badly.
Since making her debut in June 2011, Shieldmaiden has run for ten times to date including two times at Kempton.
As Johnston’s talented pupil is turning out to Kempton again today, it is expected that she will demonstrate outstanding confidence and, capitalising on her fresh form, she is likely to register the third triumph of her career.
Shieldmaiden’s chances to finish first in the Handicap race are as high as 90 percent. Let us see how she manages to keep her head high.
Along with Shieldmaiden, two other runners named as Battleoftrafalgar and Brouhaha too seem to be in favourable positions to perform well.
Battleoftrafalgar bagged his last victory in April 2011. However, he has delivered some eye-catching performances since then. In his last start at Lingfield on February 18, 2012, the five-year-old runner finished second.
As a whole, the veteran runner has won two out of his total 22 races so far. He is supposed to get second spot in today’s race.
Since his last triumph in September 2011, Brouhaha has been winless. Tom Dascombe’s black gelding finished sixth each in his last two outings.
Overall, the eight-year-old experienced runner has won 7 out of his 63 starts to date. He is expected to grab third top position at Kempton today.
By and large, today’s competition will be packed with sensation. An awe-inspiring battle will be witness among the above favourite trio. Good luck to all the runners.
