Shifa likely to win the Cashel Beginners Chase
Shifa is likely to prevail in the Cashel Beginners Chase at Thurles in Ireland on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The winner of the event will walk away with a cash prize of €5,520.
Going will be good in the 2 mile 6 furlong race, which is scheduled to start at 4:45 GMT. A total of 10 runners had initially lined up to take part in the event, but Bruach Na Mara has been ruled out due to an upset. He was not in good shape and was one
of the least favourites to win at Thurles.
A total of nine runners will now be seen in action and their names are as follows: Shifa, Big Game Hunter, Headford Flyer, Awkward Moment, Glenlo Abbey, Mr Pernickety, Rockshandy, Assumed Identity and Lion Valley.
The bookies have shown confidence in the abilities of Shifa, who has been in good form over the past few events. She has not taken part in any chase race, but that will not be a problem for her at all, as she has got a decent record overall.
W. P. Mullins’ trained runner has entered 11 races in her career, winning four of them. Other than that, she has also managed to secure the runner up and third spot on three occasions each.
The six-year-old mare finished first in her most recent run, which shows that she is in very good rhythm at the moment and it will be hard to stop her at Thurles today. She will be partnered by veteran jockey, Ruby Walsh, who simply needs no introduction
at all. He has managed to win 109 chase events at a magnificent strike rate.
Big Game Hunter, trained by M. F. Morris will also be competitive in the race, as he is a quality runner and has the experience of seven chase races. However, he has been unable to win any of such event till date, thus the bettors will not be interested
in placing too many bets in his favour.
The six-year-old gelding will be ridden by young jockey, D. N. Russell, who is looking to make a name for himself in the sport.
It will be difficult for the rest of the runners to fight for victory at Thurles today, as the top two favourites are in decent shape right now.
