Shift to 4-3 scheme seen helping Miami Dolphins top league’s defence table – NFL News
The shift of defence from 3-4 to 4-3 arrangement is seen helping the Miami Dolphins to be among the top defences of the National Football League (NFL) in the 2012 season.
Having ranked among top 10 and second in red-zone in 2010, Dolphins' defence was dropped down to 15th place, while 6th in the red zone, in 2011, but since the new offensive co-ordinator,
Kevin Coyle, has introduced the new defence scheme, the team is projected to progress through to the top in the 2012 season.
This is what linebacker, Karlos Dansby, believes. He said:
“We've got a chance to be great. We have a chance to be great in this defence. We have enough skill set. We have enough talent. We can make this defence work for us."
Irrespective of the player’s faith, Miami’s defence has always been among the league’s most formidable ones. Their last year’s form was one of the rare dismal show-offs in their franchise history.
The team is expected to take a leap forward this season, given the new coordinator is seen helping the players overcome their last year’s mistakes. Also, the shift in the defensive strategy reflects on the team’s intentions of relying
on their defence for better performance.
Meanwhile, Dansby has pointed out the need of grooming a player who can complement efforts of the star LB, Cameron Wake, in pass rush. The player has himself not identified any player who can come up to the challenge.
He said to place someone matching Wake’s efforts is essential for the team to progress to the next level of defence in the league.
Dolphins, about a month away from start of their training camp, due by end of next month, are likely to reshuffle the squad, somewhere in line with the player’s view.
A strong defence line is going to help the team’s cause of victories this season, as they have already added to their offence strength manifolds.
The arrival of veteran quarterback, David Garrard and selection of rookie QB, Ryan Tannehill, in presence of the incumbent, Matt Moore, make their offence a force to reckon with.
