Ok thank everyone for the answers to my fuel oil mix ratio. I got the motor started in a trashcan filled with water in the backyard. Now I would like to know what the shifter on the side does. Is it for shifting from forward to reverse or to neutral? or is it for shifting from first to second gear? My boat has a handle for controling in the back or you can hook it up at the wheel. Next to the wheel there is a large handle and small handle. I know the large one is for the throttle and the other one is for the shifter but I don't think it is hooked up correctly.

  1. The shifter has 3 positions.  Back is reverse. Middle is neutral.  (this is the position you would have it in when starting)  Forward is forward.  There is no first or second gear.  It's either reverse, neutral or forward.  Your choice.
