  1. Armadale is not the greatest place for kids... its a bit rough around the edges and personally I would try to avoid it!

I lived in the High Wycombe/Kalamunda area and found it to be reasonably priced, full of children and very quiet and friendly... It is also very easy to get around from there as you are surrounded by most major roads! =)

If the cost is a problem for you try looking at this site.. it shows all rental properties everywhere!

If you need to be closish to the Armadale area try Mundijong... it is sort of its own little town away from everything, quiet like a country town!

  2. If your kids are in high school you would be better off living in the Kelmscott Senior High School area (which is right next to Armadale) because that is a much better school than the other state schools around there. My kids go there.

To be honest Armadale is pretty crappy (my kids always call it Armahole hehe) and Kelmscott isn't much better but all the suburbs on the flat around there are pretty much the same. It's nicer the further up the hill you go but then I guess you would be paying more.

  3. To be honest, Armadale is not a very reputable suburb.

If you consider living in the north side of Perth, there are nice new suburbs like: Hocking, Pearsall, Ashby, Sinagra, Carramar, Tapping.  All these suburbs are very new, so you'll get a very nice property at just a little bit more than Armadale.   They are all quite close to Joondalup.  There are few good schools and uni at Joondalup.  They are not too far to the beaches in summer and close to the vineyards.  In the north, try avoiding suburbs like: Balga or Nollamara (sorry for those who live there, this is  just my personal opinion)

If you want to live in the south, try: Bibra Lake or Canningvale, Atwell or Success.

My personal preference is the north.  Although I have a business in the south, I will never think of moving to the south to live.

    Welcome to Perth!

  4. To be honest, Armadale is not great..

There was a little competition on the radio a while a go to find "Perth's dodgiest suburb" and you guessed it... Armadale won!

I'd look for somewhere else to live.

  5. Armadale isnt really a desireable area to be totally honest, I did work experience at the police station there is quite a lot of crime and a lot of unemployed people and just bogans in general. It is alright I suppose, but I dont like it, if you can afford more maybe try somewhere else.

Mundijong is very far from the city though! My mother owns a little farm there and yeh, its far, I wouldnt suggest that as its still a bit far out in the sticks.

  6. There really isn't many areas in perth that are better than another. If you want to pay higher rent you move closer to  the city. my parrents live in Armadale and have know problems. They are coordinators for a student exchange program and the exchange students love the area. There are plenty of sporting facilities, great shopping and plenty of resturants. I like the fact that you can head a couple of kms out of town to some top picnic areas in our local national parks and dams. Armadale is one of the areas in perth that is growing fast and is recieving a big make over.I was suprised when I went there last time. We moved 2hours south for a country lifestyle but we do our shopping and overnight stays in Armadale. If you want some more info on the area , give Armadale.gov.wa a go. Hope this has helped some  good luck

  7. What sort of rent can you afford.

I would stretch it a little and try and get somewhere else especially with kids.

Then again it may have change to what it was when I was younger. I'm a North of the river kinda gal really.

Have you looked at Girrawheen, It's around the same price but you're north of the river and inbetween two major city centres, Perth and Joodalup. Then you have Balcatta industrial just there with heaps of stuff. Also The beach is just 10mins down the road.

I have a house in Greenwood (The suburb west of Girrawheen) and it's so nice. You can still get stuff nice there but smaller for the same price.

My kids went to east greenwood primary and it was really nice, quite a few kids from girrawheen there. If your kids are in high school you could try and get them into Greenwood high but Warwick High is ok.

otherwise i would suggest the western suburbs. anywhere from mosman park to crawley.
