Shih Kuei Chun intercepts Dmytro Zavadsky to proceed into second round of Thailand Open 2012
Men’s Singles expert Shih Kuei Chun of Chinese Taipei kept country’s hopes alive by surging into second round of SCG Thailand Open after beating Dmytro Zavadsky in opening round on June 6, 2012.
However, he had to wait for 52 minutes to raise his arms as victor after putting concluding figures of 25-23, 15-21 and 11-21.
Kuei Chun, who was underdog earlier in this tournament, will now test his skills against Riichi Takeshita of Japan to reserve a spot in pre quarter-finals.
Earlier in the opening match, he had to face strong opposition from Dmytro Zavadsky who put him in tough test after winning first set.
The Ukrainian campaigner opened this marathon in perfect fashion and played flawless badminton. He made first segment of the show memorable with a sensational performance.
Dmytro, who was ranked 13 in this event, set the ball rolling by clinching three points immediately after the start and then maintained this decent lead until half time.
He exhibited admirable craft on the court which helped him to put a respectable total of 11 before one-minute break.
Later part of the game saw him going down for a short period of time when the opposing shuttler reached at 16 with four uninterrupted rallies.
The Taipei campaigner did not lose that momentum and stood just one shot away from finishing point.
Dmytro put his expedition to halt and entered a winning figure of 25-23 after playing four game points.
However, he could not go with same flow in next segments of the show as his challenger stormed back and blew him away.
This time Kuei Chun read his rival’s game perfectly and launched an effective counterattack strategy.
Though, he was at same level with Ukrainian shuttler until 6-6 but then he gathered speed and left him far behind with a decent total of 11 before the interval.
He did not lose grip even after the break and magnified the impact by reaching at 15 in no time. He ended this crucial tussle with a favourable margin of 21-15.
There was nothing much for Dmytro to do in the decider as it was completely dominated by Kuei Chun who sealed a splendid victory with a significant knock of 21-11.
