Shih tzus like to be touched? ?

Question

This is my second time owning a dog (previously lab) and first time owning a small dog. So i'm asking if shih tzus enjoying being petted or sitting on his/her owners lap. Also are the ear infections that I hear shh tzus are prone to, are they very common?

my aunt has two shih tzus and all they wanna do is be petted and especially sit on your lap. her dogs have never had ear infections, but thats cuz she takes good care of the ears. you just need to wipe them out mayB once a week or so  and every couple months use an ear cleaner. they are total lap dogs that luv being petted.

Shih Tzu were bred to be sweet friendly lap dogs, but where you get your dog will still make a big difference. A dog from a puppy mill (pet store) or back yard breeder is much less likely to be well socialized and enjoy human company.

I have a shih tzu and he loves attention and playing. Ear infections can be a problem for some. Just be careful when bathing not to get water in them. You can try using cotton balls to prevent water getting in. Then when picking a shih tzu out check their ears make sure they didn't have a lot of hair in them. The more hair in the ear makes in more prone to have ear build up which can cause ear infections.

First, ear infections.  Just keep them clean and dry and there shouldn't be an issue.  That's what I do with my shih tzu and haven't had an ear problem yet (he's almost 2).

Yes, they LOVE to be touched, petted and loved on.  The are total lap dogs, that's what they were bred for.  Very big on snuggles.  Now if you are adopting a puppy, they can be as hyper as the next puppy, but as adults they are big couch taters.
