Shiho Sakai grabs Women’s 100m back-stroke title: Day four – 2011 World University Games
Day four of the 2011 World University Games ended with impressive splash of Shiho Sakai and Ann Chandler in the competitive swimming finals in Shenzhen, China, on Wednesday, August 17. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m back-stroke and 50m
breast-stroke finals.
Shiho Sakai of Japan won the Women’s 100m back-stroke title on the podium by posting a stunning time of 1 minute and 00.28 seconds. Jennifer Connolly of United States captured the silver medal by submitting an impressive time of 1 minute and 00.50 seconds,
while Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus earned bronze medal as she ended her swim and posted a matchless time of 1 minute and 00.91 seconds.
In the corresponding splash, Grace Loh of Australia was placed fourth in a time of 1 minute and 01.23 seconds, while Arianna Barbieri of Italy finished fifth in a time of 1 minute and 01.31 seconds. Duane Marce Rocha Da of Spain grabbed sixth spot in a time
of 1 minute and 01.40 seconds, whereas, Maria Gromova of Russia was placed seventh in 1 minute and 01.47 seconds. Dominique Bouchard of Canada wound up eighth in a time of 1 minute and 01.74 seconds.
In the Women’s 50m breast-stroke final meet, Ann Chandler of United States secured the golden crown by posting a fastest time of 31.13 seconds. Colleen Tera Beilen Van of Canada earned silver medal on the podium by submitting a matchless time of 31.45 seconds,
while Valentina Artemeva of Russia grabbed bronze medal in a time of 31.74 seconds. Ewa Scieszko of Poland earned fourth spot in a time of 32.04 seconds, whereas, Satomi Suzuki of Japan rounded out the top five in a time of 32.10 seconds.
In the corresponding meet, Samatha Marshall of Australia was placed sixth in a time of 32.15 seconds. Micah Lawrence of United States finished seventh in a time of 32.23 seconds, while Gabriela Stephanie Spahn of Switzerland settled eighth after she touched
the finishing wall in a time of 32.44 seconds.
