The Deccan Chargers wicketkeeper, Shikhar Dhawan, on Tuesday credited the 13-run win over Pune Warriors India to a hefty 157-run third-wicket stand shared between skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 and Cameron White.
After opting to bat first in their return leg Indian Premier League match against Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, played at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Tuesday, Australian all-rounder Cameron White (74 off 45 balls) and Sangakkara (82 off
52 balls) shared the highest stand of the season so far, as the bottom placed Chargers registered their only second victory in IPL-V, both against the lacklustre Warriors.
"It was one of the best partnerships of IPL 2012,” Dhawan said after the match. “They batted fabulously. They started off well, rotated the strike and then went for the big shots," he added further.
After losing opening partner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Patel-c2159 on the first ball of the day, Dhawan was going well, putting 13 runs on the board facing 18 deliveries before Praveen Kumar’s good length delivery uprooted his middle stump to leave the tourists
23 for 2. Dhawan said that he would have loved to stay at the crease for a little longer, however, he was happy Sanga and White did it for the side despite losing the openers quite early.
Admitting they were under pressure despite setting a competitive target of 187, the 26-year-old left-handed batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 lavished praise on bowlers for a clinical show against a star-studded Pune batting line-up, including
likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SPD-Smith-c2555, all scoring above 40 on Tuesday.
"Our bowlers bowled really well. Credit goes to them that they bowled well under such pressure," Dhawan said at the post-match press conference. "There was pressure from ball one. But we were sticking to our basics and looking to execute our plans," he added
further.
Dhawan, however, was not satisfied with his side’s fielding standards once again. "We know we dropped catches, but we have been working really hard on the fielding," he said.
With only two wins in nine outings, Deccan Chargers have very dim chances of making it to the tournament playoffs, but the left-hander is hopeful of making it to the next round by winning all of their ensuing games.
The Chargers will next play defending champions Chennai Super Kings at latter’s backyard on Friday, May 4, 2012.
