Despite losing six of their IPL matches played so far this season, and one washed out fixture, the Deccan Chargers' opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is optimistic about his side’s chances of making tournament playoffs, starting on May 22.
The bottom placed Chargers have seven games to play this season and will have to win all of them quite convincingly, if they want to be in contest for the top fours, and Dhawan said that though it is a tough task, they are ready to give it a shot.
"Of course it is a hard task, but hope is always there. We will give it our best to win all the games and make our team proud," said the left-handed top-order batsman after his side registered their only second win of the season by defeating Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 by 13 runs in their return leg Indian Premier League match, played at Cuttack on Tuesday.
A 157-run third wicket stand shared between skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 and Australian all-rounder Cameron White played a key role in Chargers' victory. Dhawan lavished praise on the duo, saying both played fabulously to take the side to a competitive total
of 186 for 4.
Sangakkara, who dropped himself from playing XI in the previous match to field a best squad in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 conditions, returned to the squad with a bang, scoring a 52-ball 82, laced with 10 fours and two sixes.
In the absence of regular skipper, Cameron White had led the side. When asked about the difference between the captaincy techniques of the two, Dhawan said they both are good; however, he found the Australian a bit aggressive in field placements as compared
to Sanga.
"They both are good captains, but both have their own unique style. White has his own field placements, while Sangakkara has his own,” said the 26-year-old left-handed batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780. “They both are instinctive. Sangakkara goes by his instinct. White,
on the other hand, always changes the field and puts pressure on the batsmen," he added further.
The Delhi lad, who has also played for Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians in the previous editions, admitted that their fielding was once again below par. "We know we dropped catches, but we have been working really hard on the fielding," he said.
Sangakkara and men will next play Chennai Super Kings on Friday, May 4, 2012.
