Shimano to stay with Team Argos-Shimano for two more seasons
The cycling, fishing and rowing firm, Shimano extended its sponsorship with the UCI Professional Continental side, Team Argos-Shimano for two-more years as confirmed by the team earlier.
"Today is a great day for us. Because of the renewed partnership with Shimano we are able to continue our strategy we formed last year," Team Manager Iwan Spekenbrink noted in a press release.
"In 2012 it proved to be very successful and with Shimano as an innovative partner we know we race on the best products available for our team”.
“Shimano played an important role in getting our team to the position where we are now. In these turbulent times Shimano shows that they are reliable and committed to our team and cycling”.
Te Dutch side has already applied for the World Tour licence and with the backing up of a solid sponsor like Shimano; it is definitely a strong World Tour contender for the season ahead.
The likes of Marcel Kittel and John Degenkolb really helped the team with several victories in the 2012 season.
Marc van Rooii, the President of Shimano Europe echoed Spekenbrink words and noted that the firm had no doubts in the team and it has earned the confidence by performing superbly in the 2012 season.
He cited that the team provides the company with a platform to test their products and always gives positive feedback which helps them improving their products.
Rooii was confident that Team Argos-Shimano will make it through the top level of the sport in the season ahead which will help all the riders, the team and Shimano.
The Dutch team was founded back in 2005 with its headquarters in Netherlands and Shimano has been with the team right from its inception.
It started as Team Shimano-Memory Corp in 2005 and rode under the name Skil Shimano through 2006-11.
The team went by the name, Team Project 1t4i for three months, January to March 2012 and Team Argos-Shimano through April 2012 onwards.
The team has signed the American cyclist, Tom Peterson and Australia’s Will Clarke for the coming season.
It will be interesting to see if Team Argos-Shimano succeeds in impressing the UCI and receives the UCI World Tour status for the 2013 season.
