Shin Baek Choel, Eom Hye Won clinch a semi-final spot in 2012 Korea Grand Prix Gold

Mixed Doubles partners Shin Baek Choel and Eom Hye Won forged a fruitful chemistry and cleared the quarter-final round of Korea Grand Prix Gold on Friday, December 7, 2012.
They were up against the compatriot duo Kim Dae Eun-Yoo Hae Won in a hard fought battle which ended with concluding result of 19-21, 21-16 and 21-18.
Both Korean teams remained head-to-head for 50 minutes and entertained the audience in local badminton complex of Hwasun-gun.
Initially, the fourth seeded duo Baek Choel-Hye Won was bit sluggish as both partners could not move swiftly across the court and this passiveness hit them hard.
Meanwhile, the lower ranked but talented shuttlers Dae Eun and Hae Won relished full benefits of their rivals’ mistakes and bagged this valuable match point.
They took some time to establish a strong grip over the game but never lost focus after getting into commanding position.
In first half of the set, they played cautiously and increased their pacegradually. They struck hard just before the interval and placed a decent total.
After the mid-game break, Baek Choel-Hye Won showed some spark and prevailed in couple of consecutive rallies but it was not enough to avoid a 19-21 defeat.
However, they did not remain at lower end permanently and managed to rise from the dust in very next game.
This time they played with right attitude and fortitude to stamp their supremacy over the opposing team.
They established an unassailable lead immediately in the beginning and this initial advantage helped them to finish first half of the set with a respectable score position.
The latter part of game as also dominated by them as the twosome of Dae Eun and Hae Won failed to make a comeback and lost this crucial set with a notable deficit in 21-16 margin.
Next game kept the audience intact until third quarter of the set as it proved a dead contest in the final stage.
Baek Choel and Hye Won locked the honour with an impressive knock of 21-18 and setup their next clash with a higher ranked Indonesian pair Irfan Fadhilah-Weni Anggraini.
