Shin splints? Or what is it?

Ive been running about 20 miles a week all together and i had to stop because my calf muscle hurts so bad like right on the bone and were the muscle ends. Is it shin splints or what is it?

  1. Yes, you are experiencing shin splints.

    To alleviate the problem, you need to have shoes that are specifically made for running.

    Also try putting heel inserts in them, which will cause the heel of your foot to actually be higher than the ball of your foot.

    Don't do a lot of running right away after you get the shoes and inserts, gradually break them in by first walking a mile or two every day for about a week, then increase the pace to a jog for about a week, then you can start running again.

    The point is to keep your muscles in shape, but also allow time for the pain in your shins to go away.

    It usually takes about two weeks to a month for shin splints to completely heal, depending on how bad they are.


  2. Here is something that if you take the time to do helps ALOT. Get a towel and put a little weight on it (like a  small book) a pull the towel back with your toes, pulling the book towards you slightly. I myself have tried this and know others who have and when you do it enough it makes ur shin splints disappear.
