Shinji Aoki of Bridgestone says revised rear compounds to be supplied at Indianapolis – MotoGP news
Shinji Aoki, manager of Motorsport tyre development department, Bridgestone has revealed that revised rear compound tyres will be introduced in the upcoming Indianapolis Grand Prix.
He said that they have supplied a step more softer tyres with both options, i.e. medium and hard asymmetric rear slicks. He added that the supplied tyres support special heat resistant construction as they were provided at Mugello, Sachsen ring, and Phillip
Island.
Furthermore, he said that the selection for front tyres will also change this year as soft, medium and extra hard options will be made available to the riders to be used in every kind of track condition.
Aoki said, “This year we have revised our rear tyre compounds for Indy and have gone one step softer with both options, with the medium and hard asymmetric rear slicks being supplied. Our compound selection for the front slick tyres also changes this year,
with the soft, medium and extra-hard options now being made available to provide riders with a front tyre option for every kind of track condition.”
Furthermore, he said that the circuit is split into three sections, turns 1 to 4, 7 and eight were designed for MotoGP while the rest of the circuit is designed for the old Formula 1, whereas the main straight is part of the oval course. He added that this
variation in the track caused very high temperatures through the high-speed left hand corners, therefore modifications were required in the tyres.
The slicks available for Indianapolis GP are soft, medium and extra-hard for front tyres and medium and hard for rear tyres. Hard and soft compounds are also available for wet conditions.
Hiroshi Yamada, manager of Bridgestone Motorsport Department is of the view that it is very hard to predict the result at Indianapolis because of the random winners from seven different riders since the last four year.
Furthermore, he said that in the current season two extra riders, Steve Rapp and Aaron Yates will be racing at Indianapolis. Rapp is riding the Attack Performance-Kawasaki CRT entry, whereas Aaron Yates will debut from GPTech-Suzuki CRT machine.
The news before the event have added to the suspense related to the results of the Indianapolis GP. Let’s see whether the modified tyres be able to provide better grip to the riders or not.
