Shinji Aoki says experimental tyres at Brno test featured a new rubber compound – MotoGP news
Shinji Aoki, manager of Bridgestone’s Motorsport tyre development department told that the experimental tyres introduced at Brno test featured a new hard rubber compound to provide a more consistent gap between the different compounds offered by Bridgestone.
He said that the experimental tyres they supplied for Brno test consisted of a new rubber compound. He added that the rubber compound introduced was hard and is closer in composition to the medium compound, offered by Bridgestone, than the current hard compound
they offer. Besides, he said that the new tyre would generate a consistent gap between the different compound options offered by them.
Aoki said, “This is a hard compound rubber, which is closer to composition to the medium compound than our current hard specification and was developed to deliver a more consistent gap between our different compound options.”
Furthermore, he said that the weather conditions were not favourable for the newly introduced hard compound during the Brno test, therefore, only three riders chose to use the experimental tyre during the test.
Aoki said that the riders who tested the tyres gave the feedback that there was an improvement in the warm-up performance, as compared to old hard compound tyres.
Additionally, he said that in order to get more meaningful data, the new hard compound tyres would be made available during the private tests at Aragon, in early September, when Honda and Yamaha will be doing their tests. He added that after those tests
they will get a better understanding of the potential of their introduced compounds.
The manager of Bridgestone Motorsport tyre development department said, “The feedback from these riders was that there was an improvement in warm-up performance compared to the existing hard compound, but in order to test this new compound in more relevant
conditions and acquire more meaningful data, we will make this test tyre available at the private tests at Aragon in early September.”
Currently, Bridgestone offers three types of compounds for front tyres which include soft, medium and extra hard and two types of rear tyres which are medium and hard (asymmetric). The wet tyre compounds available are soft (main) and hard (alternative).
