Shinji Kagawa admits Arsenal-Marseille draw has dented his side’s chances in the Champions League
Borussia Dortmund midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Olympique Marseille has dented his side’s chances of progressing to the next round in the UEFA Champions League. The player claimed that
he wanted the London side to win but a draw was unfortunate for the German champions.
Die Borussen took revenge of their 3-1 defeat two weeks back as they downed Greek side Olympiakos at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night. Dortmund won 1-0 courtesy a goal from Kevin Grosskreutz in the first-half. The win means
the German champions still have a slight chance of progressing in the competition if they can get good results from their remaining matches.
Kagawa admitted that he wanted Arsenal to win against Marseille but a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium has surely dented the German club’s ambitions of playing in the knock-out stage as they are now three points behind second place
Marseille. He insisted that the only thing the team can now do is to win all the remaining matches and hope for the other results to go their way.
“I wanted Arsenal to win, but obviously that didn't happen. Nothing changes if we spend all our time worrying about the teams above us, so all we can do is win our next match,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Japanese international also played down criticism that his side played defensive football in the second-half against the Greek side. He stated that a one-goal lead was never enough so they had to defend well. He remained hopeful
that they still have a chance of progressing.
“The top line can't just stay up; they have to be able to fall back to around where the full-backs play. As a team the goal was to be defensive, I think. But I thought I had to match the team's rhythm and cooperate with the defence
and just work hard,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund still have to play against Arsenal at the Emirates and French side Marseille at home in the remaining two matches of the group stage.
