The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is delighted to score the only goal in the game against Werder Bremen and is hopeful of retaining the title.
The reigning German champions claimed all three points against Werder Bremen at home as Shinji Kagawa’s goal in the first-half proved to be the decider. The Japanese scored on his birthday as the home side secured their 18th
win of the season.
Kagawa claimed that his side had the home advantage and they made full use of it. The midfielder insisted that his team were simply brilliant as they took on a spirited Bremen side. He stated that the players were very good on
the counter and constantly troubled the opposition defences.
The former Cerezo Osaka player is confident that Dortmund will be able to retain the Bundesliga title this season despite the recent revival of Bayern Munich. He insisted that the Black Yellows have a sizeable lead over the Bavarians
and is confident that his side can defend the five point lead until the end of the season.
“We had the advantage of playing at home, and we overwhelmed our opponents. We switched quickly between attacking and defending, had numerical superiority, and were able to link our play on both sides of the ball,” he was quoted
as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp insisted that the finishing could have been better from his side. He claimed that there were a lot of chances created but the team failed to finish well.
“I can only criticise our failure to finish off our opportunities. We left the game open for too long, so it could have made for an uncertain ending to our performance. Still, I am very pleased we were extremely lively,” the tactician
concluded.
Borussia Dortmund lead the standings with 59 points from the 26 games played and have a five point lead over second place Bayern Munich. Jurgen Klopp’s side have won 18 games in the league this season and have lost just three times.
The title race is expected to go down to the wire as Bayern look to challenge Dortmund for the top spot with eight games to go until the season ends.
