Shinji Kagawa’s continued slump in form frustrates Dortmund officials- Bundesliga News
The under-performing Borussia Dortmund midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shinji-Kagawa-c33364, is currently going through a lean patch in his career, which has become a source of frustration for both the player and officials.
The Japanese has failed to live up to expectations so far this season and is under pressure to perform for club and country.
Kagawa was substituted in the 66th minute during a Champions League game against Olympiacos on Wednesday. The Black Yellows lost that crucial tie by a 3-1 margin.
The Japanese international squandered a number of opportunities especially in the first half, forcing Jurgen Klopp to replace him with Moritz Leitner. Shinji wasted the easiest chance of the evening by lifting the ball clear of the cross bar. The player
was then presented with a couple more opportunities; they all went begging.
Klopp eventually decided to replace the struggling Japanese with Leitner. The youngster was introduced to make use of his pace and bring Dortmund level with the Greek opponents. In spite of creating various openings, the 18-year-old was unable to find the
net. Olympiacos, in the meanwhile, scored the third, killing any chances that the Borussians had of making a comeback.
Kagawa, who impressed one and all with his performances last season, has become a worrying factor for Jurgen Klopp. The 22-year-old has only managed to score once this term until now and could find himself on bench for the upcoming assignments.
While talking to reporters after the game, Kagawa further enthused, "I was aiming to score from the beginning of the game. I think I was substituted because I could not score in the situation I should have. My form was not so bad so I thought I could make
it, so it was a huge regret that I could not seize the big chance to score."
The midfielder concluded his remarks, "It was not only defenders who should be blamed for conceding the goals because we defend and attack with all players. But it was a blow to us to have conceded so soon after we scored.
With a defeat on Wednesday, the Black Yellows find themselves rooted at the bottom of Group F with one point from three games. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 are currently leading the pack with seven points followed by Olympique Marseille and Olympiacos.
Dortmund and Olympiacos will lock horns again on Tuesday, November 1, at Signal Iduna Park for the return leg.
