Shinta Mulia, Lei Yao gain access to Women’s Doubles pre quarter-finals of Singapore Open 2012
Women’s Doubles experts Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao overwhelmed Vivian Kah Mun Hoo-Khe Wei Woon in first round of Li Ning Singapore Open and advanced in pre quarter-finals on June 20, 2012.
This epic tussle prolonged to 64 minutes before ending with final results 21-18, 18-21 and 21-18.
The local pair relished full benefits of home ground and crowd and setup a second round clash with Poon Lok Yan-Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong.
Earlier in their opening match, Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao stole the show by performing exceedingly well in first and last segments while the opposing team could only live their moment in second set.
World Number 12 couple started the ball rolling in first set of the match as they survived the nerve-racking tussle on merit.
They gained an immediate advantage but lost focus just before the interval which resulted in a 9-11 total. They kept trailing behind in third quarter of the set also and could not catch their rivals until 13-15.
At this stage, the twosome of Shinta Mulia and Lei Yao displayed superb fighting skills as they reinstated their lead by dominating four consecutive rallies.
They did not drop this pace in final moments also and bagged first set with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-18.
Next game was replay of previous one but in reverse manner as the Malaysian girls delivered a stunner despite of remaining low in most part of the tussle.
The partnership of Vivian and Khe Wei flourished in the beginning but got floored in later part of the game.
They lost first half with 9-11 total and then chased their challengers until 12-15. However, this three-point deficit did not harm them much as they managed to stand tall in final moments.
They caught their competitors at 15-15 and then levelled match score by registering winning figure of 21-18.
Third and final set was full of sensation as both contenders strived hard to snatch vital match point from the opponent but no one could gain a distinctive lead until 18-18.
At this stage, the native shuttlers Shinta Mulia and Lei Yao served notice of their supremacy by clinching last three points in 21-18.
