Shio Fujii top scorer in 2011 Handball Championship followed by Xeniya Volnukhina – Handball News
The 2011 World Women’s Handball Championship are currently underway in Brazil. The event is scheduled to take place from December 2 to 18, 2011. The twenty-four handball teams have made their way into the tournament where only eight have reached the quarterfinal
stage of the competition.
It has been an interesting tournament so far with all teams giving their best shot to earn a win in their respective matches. Every player has been at her best in scoring goals for her team. It is the dream of every player to score for her team. During the
Handball Championships, every match is filled with exciting shots on goal in which only some successfully dodge the goal keeper.
In this year’s Handball Championships, Japanese handball player Shio Fujii is the highest goal scorer at the moment. Until the end of the knockout stages, Fujii has scored 46 goals with 72 shots at the goal. In the group stages, Fujii scored six goals against
France, three against Brazil, eleven each against Romania and Tunisia and seven against Cuba. In the round of sixteen, Japan faced Denmark where she scored eight goals.
The second highest goal scorer in the 2011 Handball Championship is Xeniya Volnukhina from Kazakhstan. In 63 shots on goal she managed to score 42 goals. In the round stages she scored seven goals against Australia, two against
South Korea, three against Netherlands, six each against Spain and Russia.
Kazakhstan women’s national handball team were unable to enter the knockout stages because of their lower points. However, they played the twentieth place match against Germany where Volnukhina scored six goals. The Kazakhstan
women’s national handball team later played the nineteenth place match against Uruguay where Volnukhina was able to score twelve goals.
The third highest goal scorer in the 2011 World Women’s Handball Championship is Suleiky Gomez who stands equal with Kazakhstan’s Volnukhina with 42 goals. In the round stages of the competition she scored six goals each against Brazil and Romania, nine against
Tunisia, two against France and one against Japan. For the twenty-third and twenty-fourth place match, Cuba played the match against Argentina in which Gomez scored nine goals.
When Cuba played China for the twenty-first place, Gomez succeeded in scoring nine goals. Japan’s run in the tournament ended when they were defeated by Denmark in the knockout stages. Kazakhstan, too, were eliminated from the competition even before entering
into the knockout stages.
Norway’s handball player Linn Jorum Sulland stands as the fourth highest goal scorer with 39 goals followed by Cote d’Ivoire’s N'Cho Elodie Mambo standing at the fifth place with 37 goals but Cote d’Ivoire is also out of the competition.
Norway is still playing in the tournament and Sulland can try beating Fujii’s goals to take top spot.
