sup guys. just wondering:

there are 2 main color schemes for a passenger ship exterior, right?

1st one is white upper deck, black lower deck and red bottom

2nd one is all white with blue bottom

why is that so? just curious

  1. Whatever looks good to the owners and is approved by marketing- I've seen blue, red, and yellow hulls. Cabins are generally white for visibility and to stay cooler in the sun.  


  2. Every shipping line has it's own color scheme. though white and black are the most common this is due to the famous Cunard line who was the 1st to use those colors and still does. the all white scheme is also popular due to the reflective properties of the white color. this keeps the interior cool in hot climates and the A/C doesn't have to work so hard. the bottom paint is the color it is due to the poision in that paint to kill barnacles that will grow on the hull and slow the ship.

  3. White reflects sunlight and also makes them more visable in low light conditions

    The red or blue on the bottom of the hull comes from the color of the ANTI-FOULING PAINT they put on it.
