Shipping costs UK to Australia?

How much does it cost per container to Australia from Scotland any idea! Trying to weigh up weither to bring my furniture with me or buy when i get there.

Easier to buy when you get here. I just did a quote for a 20' container of personal effects from Australia to Texas, US and the freight worked out at like $4310 USD and that was freight only. Bear in mind there will be origin trucking to port (southhampton, tilbury or london) export clearance and documents and fumigation as all wood needs to be fumigated and its not that cheap. Then you have destination port charges of approx $600-700 per container, customs clearance costs approx $200 for personal effects, trucking from destination port to your door is another $600-800.

Also its a lenghtly clearance process - you need to provide Australian customs with a 4 page completed "unaccompanied personal effects statement" with a photocopy of every page of your passport and a detailed packing list. It will most likely be inspected by customs who charge by the hour for inspections.

What you are looking at doing is not cheap at all.

Much cheaper to sell your old furniture and use the money to buy new furniture over here.

better check with a shipping company ,everything depends on size and weight .!!!!!!!!!!!! must be cheaper to buy out there .!

We moved out here from the UK a year ago and left all our furniture behind. Unless it's an heirloom it is not really worth it as the prices here for furniture are ok. If you bring anything made of wood out it would have to be treated at an extra cost on top of shipping and customs. We bought flat pack t chests and book boxes from the shipping company and it worked out about 26 pounds per box  plus you do pay for customs to go through them on arrival. Also bear in mind it can take anything up to 3 months for your stuff to arrive.
