Question:

Shipping my car overseas - question on the title and customs?

Live in California and are shipping our car overseas. Question re title and customs. We had a lease on our car and bought it out ahead of our move. Financing Co sent us the title releasing all interest in the vehicle. US customs requires original title to ship car (we have) and has to be clean (we paid off, Toyota Financial signed off on the document). Does anyone know if US Customs will let us ship the car with the title as described? Or do I have to go to the DMV and remove toyota financial services from the title in order to ship? We only have 12 days before our move so i am worried about timing of everything.

thank you

Carlos

  1. Got to have Toyota Financial off the title.  Just to let you know, you may be better off selling the car, and buying one overseas.  Since your car is Federalized, as in having DOT standards. You will have to pay to have pay in the new country to have it equipped for their standards.  That will include, lighting, emissions, etc.  Ask yourself, is it worth it?
