Shipping prices overseas?

Question

why are shipping prices so expensive when buying online? take for example i recently bought an item online and the total cost was $8 and shipping was $29.00 bringing the total up to $37.00. why is this? i live in Ireland but have noticed in the last few months that shipping prices have really soared. can anyone please explain to me why?? I know this doesnt have anything to do with Yahoo! but theres no other category suited..

I work with this all day long.  Its because of customs.  Its totaly stupid, but the customs agent wants money, and so does the broker.  Plus when a company send somthing overseas we have to do a bunch of Paperwork to go along with the package.  I would have things shipped Post Office.

It's because the prices of gasoline and crude oil have gone higher. the fee for planes and ships for their journey have also increased. they also need to earn from the shipping and traveling costs.

Most Shipping companies are US owned.....gas prices went up in US over 100% in the past 5 years..........could be the old...."pass it off to the consumer trick".....welcome to the US.

If I may suggest.....whatever you are looking for try some European internet search portals.....then if you have no luck try the ones that will get you what you want. Also; ship your articles by common postal....In the US its....

USPS..(United States Postal Service)... don't know for other countries. Try to get all you need (accessorizing) from the same merchant(virtual store).....they could probably ship in same box....and the shipping is usually free with orders over a certain amount of money.
