Question:

Shirts designs, designer vs. printer!

Im a freelance graphic designer for bands and i mainly do web stuff. I'm becoming interested in doing shirt designs and there is one thing i dont understand. Is it the designers responsibility to make sure that the colors are all separated or is it that of the printer?

Am i supposed to just send a high res version of the design to the band and then the printer takes care of the rest?

any help would be amazing!thanks

  1. Most shops will expect to do the separations themselves. They will have file prep requirements. I recommend paying close attention to these because you will pay dearly down the line if you do not. Here is a link to a site with a lot of good information. I would suggest finding a few more or talking to a couple of actual screen printing shops. That will really help you to make sure that all goes well.

    And another:

If you want to do it yourself here's some more info:

I hope this is somewhat helpful. Mainly, I want to say that you should learn as much as you can up front and ask any question you may have, because one good size mistake can break you.

    Good luck and have fun.
