Lokomotiv Moscow defender, Roman Shishkin, believes that all the top-eight Russian Premier League clubs are capable of claiming the top-spot on the league table
Nobody would have predicted Zenit St. Petersburg to win the Russian Premier League title last season. However, the St. Petersburg club managed to leapfrog CSKA Moscow during the last round of the Russian championship.
The Moscow-based club struggled to retain their eight-point lead at the top of the league table after a series of disappointing performances during the last round and failed to secure UEFA Champions League football after finishing
3rd last season.
Spartak Moscow, who remained at the middle of the league table for much of the last season, shocked the football pundits and their fans after securing Champions League football last term.
Dynamo Moscow and Anzhi Makhachkala, on the other hand, remained hot favourites for the 2nd spot until the last round of the championship. However, they failed to secure their desired spot after finishing 4th
and 5th respectively.
And while usually two to three teams fight for the league title in some other reputed leagues around the world every season, Lokomotiv Moscow’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Shishkin-c31646 has insisted that the Russian top division is even more competitive.
Shishkin revealed that it is still too early to predict a potential winner out of the first eight teams in the Russian championship. As things stand, Anzhi are leading the standings with 26 points.
“People are surprised with how Anzhi have taken the leading spot but I don’ think that the success of Dagestani club is somehow sensational. They have a fantastic composition and a world class coach. But I cannot say anything more
as there is plenty of football to be played.”
“We have a very unpredictable championship as the winner could be a team that finished in the top-eight last season. Any one of these teams is ready to fight for at least the European spot. In general, it will be very dramatic
fight for gold," the former Fakel Voronezh centre back was quoted as saying.
Shishkin escaped a three-match ban following a red card in their 1-1 draw against Zenit at Petrovsky stadium.
