Shiv Kapur looks back in form at the BMW International Open
Shiv Kapur from India fired a six-under par 66 in the opening round of the BMW International Open, at the Golf Club Gut Larchenhof, to share the third position, on Thursday, June 21, 2012.
Kapur got off to a solid start with a couple of birdies on the first two holes that he played. Through the front nine, he remained at two-under par with the help of three birdies against a lone bogey.
The back nine of the course witnessed him pick the pace, as he recorded five birdies between the 10th and the 16th hole that allowed him to take the lead for a short time until he bogeyed the final hole of the day.
Overall, it was the best round posted by an Indian on the European Tour, during the 2012 golf season.
He is now just one stroke behind the leaders, Marcus Fraser and Fabrizio Zanotti, along with three other players, Keith Horne, Gregory Havret and Pelle Edberg.
Kapur is currently looking to get his form back and it is a great opportunity for him to improve his record on the 2012 European Tour season. His best finish so far came in the Madeira Islands Open, where he tied for the 26th spot.
In the meantime, the other two Indians, Jeev Milkha Singh and SSP Chowrasia, carded even-par 72 and three-over par 75, respectively.
Pablo Larrazabal, the defending champion, recorded six birdies against three bogeys to finish five strokes off the pace at a three-under par 69.
John Daly, the two-time major champion, carded a four-under par 68 on the opening day. Yet, it was not his score that impressed the spectators. In fact, it was a five wood that was present in his bag for the first time in his career.
“I’ve always played with blades as I hit my long irons really low but I saw how soft the course was, and the fact that so many other guys out here have hybrids,” he said.
“They are a lot easier to hit and I am really still getting used to them, and no offense to the senior players but I feel like they’re senior clubs”.
