Shiv Kapur records the longest tee stroke in Portugal
Shiv Kapur tied for the 26th position at the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal, recording the longest drive on the 13th hole of the third round.
The 30-year-old Indian broke all the previous records of the longest drive. No golf player was able to shoot a 442-yard tee shot in the past, as Kapur did.
He gained plenty of respect for breaking all the records of the longest-ever drive, in the 40-year history of the European Tour.
It was a par-4 hole and has measures of 461 yards and 422 meters. Kapur launched the stroke and the ball landed near the hole. He was unable to score a birdie on it, but created a new world record, at the Santo da Serra in Madeira, Portugal.
Before making a record, he played well throughout the tournament. He started the event on Thursday, shot three birdies, an eagle, a bogey and a double-bogey in the first round.
Then he added a 4-under par scores on Friday, by hitting four massive birdies and for remaining bogey-free till the end of the day.
Similarly, he displayed a bogey-free performance in the third round and amazed his fans after making four birdies.
He finished the third round among the top-10 position of the leaderboard and planned to maintain the momentum in the fourth.
However, Kapur was unable to maintain his position and dropped to the 26th on Sunday, after hitting 72 strokes in total. He shot four birdies, two bogeys and a devastating double-bogey as well.
He finished 12 strokes behind the leader Ricardo Santos, who scored a 22-under 266. He also recorded one of the best scores in the European Tour's 40-year history, as he shot a 63 in the final round.
Santos only carded three bogeys in the four-day tournament and won his first European Tour title. In the final round, he made nine massive birdies and was bogey-free till the end of the day.
In total, he shot 23 birdies and an eagle in Portugal. The tournament will be memorable for these two players.
Santos recorded the best scores and Kapur made a new world record of the longest tee stroke. The spectators and all the golf fans enjoyed such an appealing tournament.
