Shiv Kapur set to end his winless streak at the Hero Indian Open
Shiv Kapur of India is set to end his winless-streak of seven years, when he tees off at this week’s Hero Indian Open, slated to start from Thursday, October 18, 2012.
Kapur does not have a winning record in the past few years. However, it does not mean that he never came close to that.
Right from the beginning of the 2012 Asian Tour season, he has been performing well and has some good finishes recorded to his resume. In three of the last five tournaments that he played on the Asian Tour, he finished among the top-five on the leaderboard.
Last week, he recorded a fifth-place finish at the Venetian Macau Open and is confident to keep the momentum going, when he tees off on his home soil.
“As a kid growing up my dream was always to win my national open. Every golfer wants to win their national open as it is a fifth Major for them,” said Kapur, whose sole Asian Tour victory was in 2005 in Thailand.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he expressed his disappointment on not winning the tournaments despite coming close to the triumph.
He stated that he sometimes feels pressure because of the stretched winning drought on the tour. However, he will have to remain patient, if he really wants to return to his winning ways once again.
This week, he will have to face a total of 40 Asian Tour winners, including the inform Gaganjeet Bhullar, who recorded his second Asian Tour victory of the season last week.
Moreover, the tournament will be hosted at the Karnataka Golf Association for the first time in the history of the event.
Kapur also praised the idea of changing the venue course this season, as it will promote the sport in Bengaluru.
“I think it is good for the growth of the game. The sport is growing all over India. It is good for the national open to move around. India is a big country and every course has a different challenge. I think it is a great decision,” said the 30-year-old.
