Shiv Kapur vows to take down the Hero Indian Open on Asian Tour amidst a strong field
Shiv Kapur, one of the rising golfers of India, is hoping to improve his rankings in the upcoming event on the Asian Tour, the Hero Indian Open, which is scheduled from October 13-16 at the scenic Delhi Golf Club. Most of the celebrated stars of the tour
will be participating in the event with a total purse of US$1.25 million.
Kapur said, “I will take a win anywhere but getting it at the Delhi Golf Club will really be great and doing that at the Hero Indian Open would be the icing on the cake. Hero has always supported me when I needed them and I owe it to them. I wanted to come
back and play this year on my home turf.”
Kapur highlighted the fact that the Indian Open is one of the oldest events on the tour and normally attracts a number of top ranking players from across the world. The player also revealed that he has been in one his best forms lately and is hoping to capitalise
on it especially in the event which is played on his home course.
Kapur has posted strong finishes in the previous title events of the Indian Open. He finished for a joint eighth in 2005, right after he turned professional. He finished a joint 21 the next year, followed by a joint third last year.
He added, “Sometimes in golf, the gap between making it and not making it so small that one needs to stay focused and be patient.”
Kapur is sitting at number ten spot on the Asian Tour Order of Merit. He insisted that although there are some noteworthy players on the field at this year’s event, the ball is likely to roll in favour of Indian players who have done well on the tour in
the current season. He said that any Indian has a strong chance to win the title but Jyoti Randhawa stands head and shoulders above other contestants for his phenomenal run this year. He has won three times and Delhi Golf Club happens to be his favourite hunting
ground.
Also among the field is Edoardo Molinari, who is the highest ranked player in the event, poised at Number 53 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and was also part of the winning Ryder Cup team last year. He has also won the World Cup Golf. Also
on the field will be Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand who has on Asian Tour titles for a whooping 12 times in his career.
Rikard Karlberg of Sweden will also be returning to the Delhi Golf Club to retain the title he won last year. He had a glorious run on the tour last year when he went over to win two titles in his rookie year.
