Shiv Thakor to lead http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 U-19 side on South Africa tour early next year – Cricket News Update
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) selectors have named an inexperienced yet strong 15-man Under-19 squad for the upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 which begins in January next year.
Leicestershire all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shiv-Thakor-c90060 will lead the side on the trip, which will see the young cricketers from England and South Africa competing in two four-day Youth Tests and five Youth one-day internationals.
The 19-year-old Thakor is one of the most highly rated young players in English county. To date, he has played only nine first class matches and averages above 51 with the bat. His tally of 617 runs includes one century and four half
centuries as well. With his medium pace, the Leicestershire all-rounder has also picked up seven wickets. In List A cricket, Thakor averages above 38 with the bat.
Coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 head coach, said, "Shiv Thakor of Leicestershire has been appointed tour captain and is one of three Under-19s players. The squad includes five players with high potential who have graduated from
the ECB's Under-17s England Development Programme."
The emphasis of the trip, which gets underway on January 23 and runs until February 21, is on preparing for the next Under-19 Cricket World Cup which will be held in February 2014.

"Four players still eligible for the Under-19s squad have progressed to the Potential England Performance Programme fast bowlers squad while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, a recent graduate from the England Development Programme, has
also toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 this winter with the EPP," he added further.
It may be noted here that England were knocked out in the quarterfinals in this year’s U_19 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
The tourists will kick start the trip with a two day warm-up match in Cape Town on January 23, 2013, while the first Test between the two sides will be hosted by the Sahara Park Newlands, Cape Town from January 27.
