Discarded West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has once again raised his concern over the treatment meted out to him by the West Indian Cricket Board.
The left-hand batsman has been an integral part of the team for the last 15 years but was left out from the team after his poor show in the World Cup.
Chanderpaul claims that he was asked to retire by the selection panel of the WICB, he added that he was axed after he refused to hang his gloves because he believed there was cricket left in him and wanted to continue playing at the
highest level. The Guyanese claimed that the selectors were extremely keen on axing him hence they asked him to step aside.
In a letter addressed to the Chief of the West Indian Board, Ernest Hilaire, Chanderpaul has asked for an explanation on the stance taken by the selectors, he also questioned the wisdom of dropping three senior batsmen from the team.
"As far as you are concerned I was dropped from the team not for lack of performance, age, fitness and/or discipline but it is the new direction WICB is going in. What direction is that, when three of the four best batsmen are dropped
from the team?"
The incensed left hand batsman has always put a high price against his wicket, being a stubborn character with the bat. He added that the policies of the Board were detrimental to the game and despite being a senior player with an
impeccable record he was dealt with shabbily.
On the other hand, Hilaire had earlier stated that Chanderpaul was still a valuable member for the team and that the Board was keen on having him in the fray.
"The WICB has informed Chanderpaul that he has been and remains a valued member of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 first team squad and looks forward to his continued involvement with West Indies cricket," Hilaire wrote. "The WICB expresses disappointment
that WIPA appears to be intent using every opportunity to cause disaffection in West Indies cricket and is not averse to offering ill advice to players to achieve this end."
Meanwhile Chanderpaul felt that the Board was playing dirty and was h**l bent upon leaving him out of the national fold.
He felt that the Board was blaming the West Indian Players Association for creating disharmony amongst team members.
Chanderpaul stated that Hilaire was in the wrong to question the WIPA as years of playing at the highest level had made him a tough cookie who knew well what to hear and what not to.
He added that he had faced the best bowlers in the world in his career and he knew well how to counter attack, in his latest letter he also accused the West Indian team Doctor of incompetence.
Chanderpaul claimed that he had severely injured his hand during an attempt of stopping the ball in a match in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, yet the team Doctor brushed it aside and told him to rest for a few days. He added that scans later revealed
the seriousness of the injury and meant that the left hander was side-lined for many months. He added that he had to pay the expense of the treatment from his own pocket as the WICB did not bother to foot the bills of his treatment.
Meanwhile Chanderpaul is not the only senior player who has made his grievances with the Board public, discarded opening batsman and former captain Chris Gayle has also slammed Hilaire for his inept policies which forced his ouster
from the team.
