Shivnarine Chanderpaul happy to be the number one Test batsman again – Cricket News Update
Former West Indies captain, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, is ecstatic to have regained the number one ranking in ICC’s top Test batsmen and is geared up to do well in the upcoming series against England.
The left-handed batsman did a splendid job in the recently concluded Test series against Australia as he scored 346 runs in three matches at an average of 86.50 runs per innings, including a hundred and three half-centuries.
The 37-year-old cricketer replaced AB de Villiers as the number one ranked Test batsman after the series. On top of that, he also completed 10’000 runs at the highest stage of the game.
Since the retirement of Brian Lara, Chanderpaul has taken the responsibility of West Indian batting on his shoulders and has been performing brilliantly since the last couple of years.
The cricketer from Guyana is happy with his performances in the longer version of the sport. He feels that his hunger for runs has not died even at this stage of his career and wants to score big runs for his team, whenever he goes out to bat.
Chanderpaul said, “It feels good to be back in the top spot in Test cricket. I am batting well at the moment, and when things are going well for you at the crease, you try to keep going and building and look to make the most of every innings you play.”
West Indies is scheduled to play a Test series against England, which is going to start from the 17th of May, 2012, with the first Test at Lords. The inexperienced batsmen of West Indies may find it hard to cope with the English conditions and Darren Sammy will be looking at Chanderpaul once again to perform out of his skin.
The middle-order batsman is excited about the upcoming series and hopes that his team will deliver the goods against the number one ranked Test team of the world.
“I’m feeling confident as we get ready for England and, like everyone else in the team, my eyes are fixed on the next few weeks and what we want to achieve,” the left-hander added.
