Shivnarine Chanderpaul named in squad for two-day practice match by the WICB – Cricket news
West Indies batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been extended an invitation by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board to take part in the two-day practice match on May 8 and 9. A shortlist of 15 players had been put up by the WICB and Chanderpaul’s name was amongst
them for the match at the Demerara Cricket Ground.
The news comes after the on-going saga between WICB chief, Ernest Hilaire and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, after the latter was dropped from the ODI squad after the World Cup on the basis of ‘poor discipline and application’. The call up comes just before the
West Indies take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the Test series after the 3-2 ODI series loss.
Chanderpaul had hoped to face the Pakistani bowling line-up and judge them for himself before the Test matches were to begin, but he will not be able to do so as the Pakistani team take on Guyana on the same dates on which the two-day match is scheduled
to take place.
Along with Chanderpaul, two other players have also been called up to the squad including 18-year-old, Kraigg Brathwaite, who will be making his Test debut if he is eventually named in the final XI against Pakistan.
Brathwaite has earned the call up after putting in a number of impressive performances at the first class level that have caught the eye of West Indian selectors, including an unbeaten 168 runs for the West Indies under-19 squad against their Australian
counterparts.
Fidel Edwards is another player who has earned a place on the side, as the West Indies team look to add another option when it comes to pace in their bowling attack. The left-handed batsman, Chanderpaul, is one of the most important players in the squad
as his ability to compose an innings is over utter importance to his team.
