Shivnarine Chanderpaul questions WICB CEO Ernest Hilaire’s statement – Cricket News
West Indies middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ernest Hilaire's comments, about the fact that the team is not disciplined and has not applied itself in the last 10 years
in international cricket.
Chanderpaul has asked for an explanation from the CEO after the comments he made which the veteran thinks were directed towards him.
The CEO had recently stated that the indiscipline and lack of application from the senior players had caused the decline in West Indies cricket over the last decade.
Hilaire stated that a careful analysis of West Indies cricket in the mid 1990's indicated that a lot of systems they had were not functioning or had broken down. He said that there was no application, no discipline due to which the team was suffering in
international cricket.
He added, “We need to put a new system in place. No one man is bigger than the team, no one man is such a superstar he can decide if he is training today, if he's going to have treatment tomorrow, if he's going to attend a team meeting. It cannot work that
way.”
Chanderpaul has allegedly blamed the board and its’ Chief, Ernest Hilaire for causing damage to his reputation and profession. He is of the view that the Chief should not behave in such a rude manner, in front of the media.
According to a Caribbean newspaper, Chanderpaul stated, “I must warn you that unless your explanations adequately deal with the matter and show themselves to be based on truth and free of malice, I will take whatever action necessary to clear my good name.
While it would help if the WICB as an organisation repudiates your comments in this regard, it would still not be sufficient to erase the tremendous damage already done.”
He added that those who have questioned his application and discipline were not aware of the sacrifices he had made for West Indies cricket throughout his career.
Chanderpaul was dropped from the ongoing home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, along with Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan. He claimed that the statement given by Hilaire has stigmatized his reputation in the cricket world.
