Former West Indies captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul has hit back at the West Indies Cricket Board chief executive Ernest Hilaire for questioning the commitment of senior Windies players to the cause of the national team over the past decade.
Chanderpaul has sought an explanation from the Board official regarding his comments.
In a letter to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board, the seasoned Windies batsmen said that Hilaire’s comments have done a serious damage to his immaculate cricketing career and threatened the CEO to take necessary action to clear his good name.
“I must warn you that unless your explanations adequately deal with the matter and show themselves to be based on truth and free of malice,” Chanderpaul was quoted as saying by a leading West Indies newspaper.
“I will take whatever action necessary to clear my good name. While it would help if the WICB as an organisation repudiates your comments in this regard, it would still not be sufficient to erase the tremendous damage already done,” he added further.
Hilaire had earlier accused senior players of being undisciplined and had said that lack of application over the last decade was responsible for the current downfall of West Indies cricket.
“If you look at West Indies cricket since the mid-90s, a lot of the systems we had in place broke down. There's no discipline, there's no application. We've been doing that for 15 years and we've been losing,” said the WICB chief.
The left-handed Guyana batsman took serious offence of the comments and warned the West Indies Cricket Board chief executive about the “damage” his interview has done to his pristine career.
The 36-year-old batsman, along with Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan, was recently dropped from the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 following team’s dismal performance in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011.
He said that Hilaire’s comments have brought disgrace to him as a loyal cricketer. He further added that by making public allegations, the Board’s chief executive has crossed the line and fears if he does not challenge the accusations, it may destroy his
career.
