Shivnarine Chanderpaul rejects rumours of call up to West Indies Test squad – Cricket News
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board for the forthcoming Test series against Pakistan.
While the official Test squad has not been announced there were credible reports that Chanderpaul’s name was on the list. Speaking at a press conference outside his home, Chanderpaul was quizzed by a handful of journalists, who had shown up about his rumoured
inclusion in the side.
“Its news to me,” Chanderpaul responded, “but it is a positive sign that Ernest (Hilare) and the WICB are assessing all possible options for the two Test matches against Pakistan.”
It seems the tension between the veteran West Indies batsman and the CEO of the WICB, Ernest Hilare have not eased since the batsman was axed from the One Day International squad following the ICC World Cup 2011 in the subcontinent.
“But even if the rumour is true, I doubt I’ll be linking up with the rest of the squad for the Test series.”
When asked what prompted Chanderpaul’s decision, the West Indies batsman replied, “There are a number of reasons, firstly because Ernest is only doing this because he realizes that dropping me was a big mistake and I wish to make him suffer for it.”
Chanderpaul had an air of vindicated arrogance about him as he went on a long rant of how he had been a faithful servant of West Indian cricket and how Ernest had been jealous that he had never been selected to the side when he tried out early on in his
career and was taking it out on him.
When asked about the lack of discipline allegations that were highlighted as the reason for his exclusion after the World Cup Chanderpaul retorted, “After we had made it into the quarter final Chris (Gayle), Ramnaresh (Sarwan) and I decided to celebrate
and threw a cold pitcher of Gatorade on Ernest in the dressing room.”
It turns out the WICB CEO did not appreciate the gesture and took it as an insult claiming his wife was unhappy he had ruined his suit.
“It was a gift from my wife’s mother on our wedding anniversary,” Ernest had confided to a close friend, who had captured the conversation on video, “and now it is ruined, my wife hates me and says it’s my fault. She has not cooked me a decent meal since.”
It seems that was as much as the West Indies’ CEO could take as the painful memory of not being picked for the side during his playing days, coupled with the lack of home cooked meals forced him to take action against an otherwise harmless act by the trio.
Reprimanding them for ‘a lack of discipline and application’ which was all he could come up with after being unable to publically announce the real reason.
“We were excited and decided to involve him (Ernest) in our celebrations,” Chanderpaul said explaining his actions, “and besides, it wasn’t even that nice a suit so I really don’t know what the big deal is about. Apparently”
The statement is sure to get a response from the WICB CEO when he hears it, but until then the man of the moment was Chanderpaul who added, “Besides if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 do to us in the Test matches what they did to us in the (World Cup) quarter final I do not want
to be a part of it.”
